Piece 1
Generative Music: A Documentary
This film was the companion piece to my master’s thesis on generative music, made during my time at the Glasgow School of Art.
The film is bookended with two of my own generative music pieces (the opening piece is made in Max/MSP, a visual scripting language, and the ending is a performance of one of my verbal notation scores by pianist Parisa Shirvani). Throughout the film, I interview a variety of artists, musicians and composers whose work falls under the umbrella of generative music.
The collaborative process of filmmaking, and the insight I acquired through the many conversations, performances and revelatory listening experiences during this time, have informed and inspired my own practice going forward.
Piece 2
Verbal Notation Scores
Inspired by the likes of Yoko Ono, La Monte Young and James Saunders, this collection of compositions are written in plain English, as opposed to traditional music notation.
Immediately below is a brief introduction video, followed by two collections of verbal notation scores, written for pianist Parisa Shirvani and drummer Deantoni Parks.
The following compositions were written as part of my master’s thesis on Generative Music, for pianist Parisa Shirvani to perform.

Bedroom Producer
If you can make a choice, you can make music.
A songwriting simulator, allowing the player to create a finished song from scratch, all without the need to play an instrument or know music theory. Write your masterpiece from your bedroom.
